Pomni from The Amazing Digital Circus is one of the most requested Mii face paint designs in the community right now. Her jester design is instantly recognizable but requires careful grid planning — especially the checkered hat pattern.

Mii Base Settings

Before you enter the face paint editor, set up the base Mii:

| Setting | Value | |---|---| | Skin tone | Lightest | | Hair style | Short or none (the jester hat covers it) | | Hair colour | Dark purple or dark grey | | Eye shape | Large round | | Face shape | Oval |

Set all facial features to None in Mii Maker — you'll paint everything from scratch. This gives you the cleanest canvas.

Face Paint Step-by-Step

Step 1: White base

Open face paint in Pro/Artist mode. Use the fill tool to paint the entire face oval white. This is Pomni's face colour. Put this on the bottom layer.

Step 2: Jester hat

The hat is the most important part. It sits above the Mii's hair area (rows 0-6 on the grid). Use dark purple or dark blue. The hat shape is rounded with three points — two at the sides pointing up and out, one at the center top.

Step 3: Checkered pattern

Inside the hat, paint alternating purple and white cells. Use the 4px brush for this — it gives you 64 cells of detail. Reference a checkerboard pattern or use the grid tool to mark exactly which cells should be dark vs light.

Step 4: Face details

  • Eyes: Large droopy eyes with heavy eyelids. Use black for the eyeliner, white for the eye whites, and a dot of dark purple for the pupils.
  • Cheeks: Small red circles on both cheeks, about 4-6 cells wide on the 8px grid.
  • Mouth: Wide smile with a slight upward curve. Outline in black, fill with dark red.

Step 5: Layer review

Make sure the hat and facial details are on the top layer. The white base should be on the bottom layer. Use the Select → ZR technique to move elements between layers if needed.

Tips from the community

  • The checkered hat pattern is the hardest part. Use the grid tool with a Pomni reference image for exact cell coordinates.
  • Some players prefer to leave the Mii hair visible and paint the hat above it on the top layer. Experiment with both approaches.
  • Check the expressions preview — Pomni's design should still read clearly when the Mii smiles or looks surprised.
